Getaway House – Epsom, New Hampshire

If you are on Instagram or Facebook, it is likely that you have stumbled across advertisements for Getaway House. Regardless of where in the United States you live, you likely have a Getaway House property near you. Some of the Getaway House locations include Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charlotte/Raleigh, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, and Washington, D.C.

While it seems each property and the cabins they offer are similar across locations, I will speak specifically to the location we stayed at near Boston. The Getaway House location for the Boston area is actually in Epsom, New Hampshire, just a couple of hours north of the city. The property itself had over 35 cabins, each with enough separation for total privacy, peace and quiet.

What Does the Cabin Look Like Inside?

You can select a cabin with either 1 Queen Bed or 2 Queen Beds (the 2 beds are lofted). When you book, you can select 1 bed, 2 beds, or ‘any’. We selected ‘any’ because I didn’t have a preference, and ended up with the lofted bed situation. It was myself, my husband, and our two dogs, and honestly the 2 lofted beds were perfect, because we slept on the top one and our spoiled dogs slept on the bottom one.

Aside from the bed set up, each cabin has a bathroom (toilet and shower), a small kitchen area with a stovetop, mini fridge, and sink, as well as a cozy dining area. We brought food to cook while we were there – making dinner and breakfast inside our cabin. An extra cute touch: Getaway had a dog bowl, treats, poop bags, and a human s’mores kit waiting for us.

While pots, pans, paper towels, cutlery, dish soap, etc. are available in the cabin without charge – Getaway House provides other items at a small cost. Examples include coffee ($1.50), log bundle ($6.50), hot chocolate ($.50). You can certainly bring your own to avoid these charges.

There is no television or WiFi, which is intentional. There is a radio, and we brought a small speaker to listen to music outside by the fire. Otherwise bring some board games and a good book for entertainment.

What is There To Do Outside?

First of all, if you’re lucky like us and visit in the winter in New England, you will have snow! In all seriousness though, we spent all night outside listening to music, drinking wine and whiskey by the fire. We burned through 6 log bundles in one night and had a blast. I highly recommend making the most of the outdoor space near your cabin.

We also took the dogs walking around the property, which was wonderful. If we were staying for a longer period of time, we likely would have done some hiking in the mountains of NH.

Each cabin has a name, we stayed in “Maurice” – and Getaway provides a map to the property with how to access your cabin a few hours prior to arrival.

Again, as you can see – there is a firepit (with grill) with several outdoor chairs, a picnic table and a large storage container with firewood and fire starters. We did not cook outside over our fire, but you certainly could! Additionally, if you need ANYTHING, someone from Getaway is a quick text away – they will bring you log bundles, among other things, with urgency!
