In the interest of recharging and escaping the ‘groundhog day’ scenario we have found ourselves in, my husband and I decided to take a 1-night trip to Springvale, Maine. The getaway was entirely inspired by this eco-friendly, carefully crafted, carbon neutral treehouse only 1.5 short hours away from our home.
The team at Purposely Lost has absolutely nailed the design and sustainable features of this property, and the great news is they are building new unique homes on their retreat property as I type this, available for pre-book.
That is right – not only can you book this treehouse, but you can also plan ahead and book their new A-frame treehouse available starting in April, 2021 (sorry we already took the first weekend in April) as well as their Fern Hollow Hobbit House available in Fall 2021!
As a heads up, the treehouse is almost entirely booked between now and the end of April – it takes persistence and a keen eye to look for cancellations and an opportunity to stay here this Winter. Otherwise, book ahead for the Spring / Summer!

Property Features
While the home itself is only 350 square-feet, the outdoor space, open concept interior, and placement of windows and storage makes it feel much larger.
The hot tub was the perfect way to cap off our night, but if you are staying longer, I highly suggest kayaking or fishing on Littlefield Pond out front.
The property was quiet, nestled away from residential areas and busy roadways. If the weather is nice, there is ample opportunity to enjoy a meal outside, as a grill (and firepit) are also provided).
Inside the home has two Queen sized beds, a fully stocked kitchen, and a cozy dining / lounge space with a mounted projector and screen to hook up your laptop or tablet to watch movies. We actually plugged in our phone and listened to music while we talked, drank, ate, and played board games (also provided). In fact, guess what? There is a board game called “Pandemic”. This was new to me, and they had it and therefore we had to play it. Actually, quite fun!

Sustainability
Direct from their website, Purposely Lost shares, ‘we wanted to show that the travel and lodging sector doesn’t need to be an industry of gluttony. That it is possible to enjoy the beauty of nature in luxury and be environmentally responsible.’
Now isn’t that refreshing?
So how are they doing this?
- Stay small – hence the ‘tiny home’
- Insulate
- Solar panel electricity production
- Reduce power usage through energy-conserving appliances and light fixtures

Maine COVID-19 precautions
As a reminder, please check the local state entry requirements. At the time we traveled, a negative COVID-19 test was required with 72 hours of arrival, or you had to quarantine for the duration of your stay. There was also a piece of paperwork you had to fill out and keep with you, essentially holding you accountable for your actions.
We received a COVID-19 test on Wednesday before our Friday night travel and got our results in time, but honestly would have been really easy to quarantine for the 1-night duration of our stay.
